Sayeed Bin Mohammed (1921-1982), an Indian artist, painter, portrait master, muralist, and Urdu writer of the post-independence era, achieved significant recognition in a short time. He made numerous award-winning contributions in the fields of fine arts, painting, and traditional Indian portraiture.

Life's Legacy

  • 1921 Born in Mahaboobnagar, Andhra Pradesh, he is the son of Sri Mohammad Bin Sayeed Babader. He studied at Daru-I-Shafa High School in Hyderabad, where he learned drawing from his teacher, the late Sri Gangadhar Rao Phatak.

  • 1941 He enrolled at the Central School of Arts and Crafts (Now College of Fine Arts at Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University) in Hyderabad. He trained under the late Khan Bahadur Sayed Ahmed and the late Sri Sukumar Deuskar, ultimately earning a Diploma in Painting.

  • 1942 His first artwork was acquired by Nawab Salar Jung Bahadur.

  • 1945 1st in Honours

  • 1945 Awarded Chattari Gold Medal.

  • 1953 Awarded Deusker Gold Medal.

  • 1941-53 Awarded Nine Silver Medals in various All India Art Exhibitions.

  • 1945-54 Awarded three Bronze medals in various All India Art Exhibitions.

  • 1950-60 He founded "Art View," an institution dedicated to training and inspiring emerging artists.

  • 1957  He designed a monument commemorating the freedom fighters of 1857, located at the entrance of the former Hyderabad Residency. Additionally, he created the first bird's-eye view painting of the Nagarjunasagar Dam project before its construction.

  • 1966 Awarded Tamrapatra by the Hyderabad Art Society on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee Celebrations.

  • 1969 Best Award in the  Exhibition held by the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta.

  • 1945-70 In addition to gold, silver, and bronze medals, he received first prizes, twenty cash awards, and numerous merit certificates at various exhibitions. 

  • 1955-74 He designed and executed five tableaux in New Delhi and five tableaux in Hyderabad.

  • 1973 He designed a 14' mosaic mural at Royal Talkies in Hyderabad and created a (23'x8') mosaic mural at Warner Hindustan Ltd., also in Hyderabad.

  • 1975 He was honored by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh during the World Telugu Conference and received a cash prize.

  • 1976 He designed a large mural, measuring  (14'x300'), using the Vinar Tex medium for the Housing Board Building on Mukarram Jahi Road, Hyderabad.
